As SLPs know, children with language disorders often have difficulty finding specific words to describe things. I’ve done therapy targeting describing words quite often. This new app by Smarty-Ears applications makes it a bit more fun.
During my last post, I mentioned the RTI conference that I attended this past week. I was very impressed with several things about the conference and came away with several ideas for my school and my work.
What is Response to Intervention and what does it have to do with speech? Great question…and I don’t know that I can answer it fully, but I do have some ideas.
Have you ever thought about how apps for the iPad are made? Why they are made?
I didn’t have a clue how they’re made until I helped create one (SLP Goalbank)…and then my knowledge was very VERY limited. I helped create an excel file with content, sent it to the developer (smarty-ears) and magic happened. Almost before we knew it, the app was done, accepted by iTunes, and people were buying it. Even more importantly, I was able to use it for my own therapy purposes. I was excited and felt like a success!
Periodically we all have days where we realize there are things we don’t know. Sometimes it’s because we bury our head in the sand and don’t want to know and sometimes it’s because we have no frame of reference… I’m sure there’s other reasons too but let’s keep it positive, okay?
Language Adventures is a multiplayer, multilevel game from Smarty-Ears.com. 
I use this for students in grades 1 – 6. There are three levels (with different themes and game boards) and you can have up to four students play. The app is designed to look like a game board, complete with rolling dice and pieces to move. The kids really enjoy it.

I’m both pleased and honored that you have taken the time to look here and see what’s happening. This is the first post (of many hopefully) for my new business/blog/web presence.
