I don’t think I fully appreciated journal articles until I didn’t have ready access to them anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I still have access to my ASHA journals – and I love them and read them frequently. But there is more to research than just what ASHA publishes. Unfortunately for the typical SLP (at least here in the states) those articles and the research they represent is just out of reach.

Adventures in Awesomeness…
Yes, I know it’s not really a great title…but, I think it’ll make sense in a bit.
Like most SLPs I want to acknowledge how hard things can be – and do the happy dance when something goes well. It’s easy to reward the kids (they remind us constantly) but it’s not always as easy to remember to reward ourselves. No, I’m not talking about a cold beverage after work, or a vacation, or anything like that… but every once in a while it’s wonderful to be able to stand up and say:
“Hey world! Look at what happened today! I helped this happen!!!!”
Are you BOARD? UNO I am! Plus a giveaway!!!
Adjective Remix Winners!!
Happy Independence Day (for those of you here in the states!)
I’m happy to report we had more participants in this contest, apparently the news about the blog is getting out which makes me very happy. I love seeing how people from all over the world are looking at the blog. Hopefully the readers find the content worthwhile enough to refer it to friends.
Adjective Remix – Contest
Wow…we just finished one contest (Congratulations to Jan and Juli the winners) and we are starting another contest!!! How exciting.
CONTEST WINNERS
I know you have ALL been waiting breathlessly to see who has won the two codes for Ice Cream Planets…right? Well, at least the 11 of you who commented have been!
Adventures with speechBITE
I was reading twitter the other day and one of the #SLPeeps (I believe it was Caroline Bowen) mentioned this fabulous website.
This is directly from the website: “speechBITE™ is a database that provides open access to a catalogue of Best Interventions and Treatment Efficacy across the scope of Speech Pathology practice. This is an evidence based practice initiative between The University of Sydney and Speech Pathology Australia.”
Adventures in RTI (and speech)
What is Response to Intervention and what does it have to do with speech? Great question…and I don’t know that I can answer it fully, but I do have some ideas.
App Adventures
Have you ever thought about how apps for the iPad are made? Why they are made?
I didn’t have a clue how they’re made until I helped create one (SLP Goalbank)…and then my knowledge was very VERY limited. I helped create an excel file with content, sent it to the developer (smarty-ears) and magic happened. Almost before we knew it, the app was done, accepted by iTunes, and people were buying it. Even more importantly, I was able to use it for my own therapy purposes. I was excited and felt like a success!
who knew?
Periodically we all have days where we realize there are things we don’t know. Sometimes it’s because we bury our head in the sand and don’t want to know and sometimes it’s because we have no frame of reference… I’m sure there’s other reasons too but let’s keep it positive, okay?
